Modern Architecture and Heritage

The research proposes the enhancement of Modern Architecture and Urbanism in Ecuador through the work of the architect Gilberto Gatto Sobral built in Cuenca. Gilberto Gatto Sobral was the main modern architect who projected in various cities in Ecuador and especially in the city of Cuenca during the fifties and sixties. His work has significantly transformed the city, leaving true architecture lessons and a great legacy for our cities. Through his work it is possible to interweave the duality between Tradition and Vanguard, typical of the adaptation of the modern movement in Latin America.

In the research project, it is sought that, unlike the traditional way of valuing the built heritage, the intrinsic values ​​of modernity are recognized in the modern project and at the same time reveal the historical, social and cultural reality of our country.
